There are many fun and exciting things that can be done with computers in todays technological society. Please find below some of the training courses we offer for your enjoyment! Check the Training calendar for details.

Turn your forgotten photos into permanent digital memories! We'll teach you to use a scanner to copy your film photographs onto the computer in a digital format and show you how to burn your photos onto a CD. They will be ready for editing in the Photo Fixing classes or you can use them in the Windows Movie Maker course. This is a 2-hour single session course. Prerequisite: must have knowledge of using the mouse and keyboard or have completed Getting Started.

We’ll teach you how to use your digital camera to take amazing photographs! You will also learn how to transfer your digital photos from the camera to the computer, organize photos and learn basic photo editing skills. This course is delivered in six 2-hour classes. Prerequisite: must have knowledge of using the mouse and keyboard or have completed Getting Started.

1) Digital Camera Basics: Recently purchased a digital camera and still haven’t quite figured out all the buttons? This class will teach you about camera settings, menu features, memory cards and all the basics!

2) Digital Photography: Learn how to take great pictures using composition, flash, zoom and macro settings as well as options for various light conditions and locations.

3) Advanced Digital Photography: Learn how to reduce the grainy look of photos, operate manual focus and exposure bracketing. Review pictures with more detail using histograms to judge brightness. Record movies and perform basic editing functions on your camera.

4) Organizing Photos: So you’ve taken some great photos but not sure what to do with them? Learn to transfer photos from your digital camera onto your computer, organize them, transfer photos to digital picture frames and how to use photo kiosks for printing.

5) Photo Fixing 1: Learn to use GIMP—a free photo-editing program used to crop photos, edit red-eye and enhance photos. Also, learn to open, save and rename photo files and navigate on the screen.

6) Photo Fixing 2: Learn more advanced photo-editing tools in GIMP including using paintbrush, cloning, smudge and transform tools, as well as how to adjust brightness, colour AND MORE!

Learn how to turn your family photos into a DVD movie using Windows Movie Maker. Incorporate your pictures, movie clips and music. Create a slideshow for a memorial or tribute, anniversaries, birthdays, weddings, retirement celebrations or business advertising. Share with family and friends your personal movies that will play on any DVD player! This is a 6-hour course delivered in three 2-hour sessions. *Prerequisite: comfort with digital photo file management and cut, copy, paste functions.

Learn to use webmail and send attachments such as photos and documents. This is a 4-hour course delivered in two 2-hour classes. *Prerequisite - must have knowledge of using the mouse and keyboard or have completed the Getting Started course.

Learn to effectively surf the Internet and search for specific web pages. This is a 4-hour course delivered in two 2-hour sessions. *Prerequisite - must have knowledge of using the mouse and keyboard or have completed the Getting Started course.

We'll help you start your family tree, search for ancestors and share your discoveries with family and friends. The Internet has a wealth of resources to assist you. Discovering your family history has never been easier or more rewarding! Previous computer experience is not necessary.
